How to use
- Choose Encode or Decode and the encoding mode that matches where the text is used.
- Type or paste text. The result updates instantly.
- If the input is a full URL, the breakdown below shows each part and every query parameter decoded.
Percent-encode URLs and inspect query parameters
URLs can only contain a limited set of ASCII characters. Everything else, including spaces, non-Latin letters and reserved characters such as & and =, must be written as a percent sign followed by two hexadecimal digits of its UTF-8 bytes. Encoding the wrong way, for example encoding a whole URL with encodeURIComponent, breaks the link, which is why this tool offers all three modes.
encodeURIComponent encodes everything except letters, digits and - _ . ~, so it is right for a single query parameter value. encodeURI keeps characters that have meaning in a URL (: / ? # & =) so it is used for a whole URL.
